State Farm Insurance
“I’ll Be There”
60 second television ad
Analysis of this specific State Farm commercial:
This ad is very successful in portraying its message to sell life insurance.
It plays on current emotions regarding the RECENT death of a pop icon, Michael Jackson.
=PERFECT TIMING
The commercial plays Jackson Five's “I’ll Be There” to provoke emotion in the audience
=utilizes the music of the late Michael Jackson to attract audience and pull them in with sadness
Exercises emotional imagery of sufferance and family life to remind the audience how important it is to remain “there” for their family
=Life insurance will always be needed. Life insurance provides a source of safety when a person cannot financially be there for their family after their own death or serious injury. The commercial communicates that if one is insured by State Farm, their agents will “always be there” to lend a helping hand.
The majority of the audience, whom are non-advertisers, typically will not realize that this ad is true advertising genius, coupled with perfect timing surrounding the death of a MAJOR American pop icon. This campaign is truly innovative and essentially expected work from State Farm's agency, DDB Chicago.
